Corvidae

On skeletal wings I soar
Circling the crumbling stone walls
Ocean's salty breath tangs above
Nothing but carrion, inert cadavers
Sun bleached bone jutting through
Leathery skin, yellowed and pungent

On skeletal wings I swoop
Though the stench and squalor
Of the city's cluttered streets
Past clandestine confessionals &
Open windows, curtains billowing
Like lace gowns in the night

On skeletal wings I seize
Dying breaths & infant's smiles
Maiden's hands, their virgin womb
On wounded knees they succumb
With feverish prayers so vainly spun
For I am death's herald, his beak & claw

On skeletal wings I serve!
